616 large cannabis plants and extensive cultivation equipment seized; British national arrested
The Guardia Civil has dismantled a high-tech indoor marijuana plantation hidden inside an industrial warehouse in the urban center of Almoradí. The operation, dubbed “Torsi-25,” resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old British man, who is being investigated for a crime against public health.
The investigation began after local residents alerted authorities to unusual machinery noises coming from the warehouse during the night. Responding to the tip-off, officers launched a surveillance operation and soon detected suspicious activity around the premises, raising concerns about possible illegal activity.
Once sufficient evidence had been gathered, officers secured a warrant to enter and search the property. The suspect was apprehended as he attempted to exit the warehouse.
Inside, agents discovered that the facility had been meticulously modified to conceal the plantation. The interior had been subdivided with drywall panels and hidden doors, leading to multiple growing chambers. The operation was equipped with an advanced automated system for irrigation, lighting, and ventilation—designed to minimize human presence and reduce the risk of detection.
In total, the Guardia Civil seized 616 fully grown marijuana plants, along with 79 industrial lamps, 23 extractor tubes, filters, fans, water tanks, fertilizers, and a variety of plant protection products. Investigators also found that the facility was illegally connected to the electrical grid, bypassing proper billing.
The suspect, who has prior convictions for similar offenses, was brought before the Court of Instruction No. 1 in Orihuela. He has been released under precautionary measures pending further judicial proceedings.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Spanish authorities to combat sophisticated drug cultivation networks, often concealed in plain sight within urban and industrial settings.
