Torrevieja opens outdoor pools as council moves to upgrade indoor swimming facility

Torrevieja’s outdoor municipal swimming pools will open for the summer season on Monday, June 8, as the council also moves ahead with major safety improvements at the indoor municipal pool.

The Department of Sports has confirmed that residents and visitors will be able to use both the 25-metre outdoor pool and the recreational pool at the Ciudad Deportiva sports complex throughout the summer months.

The 25-metre pool will be available for training and recreational swimming, while the recreational pool is aimed at families and leisure users. Entry costs €3, with a reduced rate of €2 for eligible groups, including large families, single-parent families, Youth Card holders, over-60s, people with disabilities, and victims of gender violence or terrorism. A combined 20-session pool and gym pass is also available for €40, reduced to €20 for those entitled to discounts. Tickets and passes can be purchased online through Torrevieja Deportes.

At the same time, Torrevieja Council has begun the process of fully renewing the climate control system at the indoor municipal swimming pool, following the recent detachment of a ventilation duct inside the facility.

Technical reports concluded that the incident was caused by the progressive deterioration of the duct’s fixing and support elements. Inspections found no evidence of a general structural failure or immediate risk of further detachments.

The planned replacement system will reroute the air-conditioning duct away from the area above the pool water, improving safety, reducing future risks and making maintenance easier.

Sports councillor Diana Box Alonso said the council had acted responsibly and transparently from the outset, stressing that user safety remains an “absolute priority”.
