Torrevieja & Pilar de la Horadada to host over 500 football-loving medics – winner goes to the World Cup in Ireland!
TORREVIEJA – Get ready for a prescription of football fever! From June 12 to 14, Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada will become ground zero for the 31st National Medical Football Championship, where 500+ doctors from across Spain will trade hospital wards for football fields in a massive sporting showdown.
A total of 24 teams — including 18 full squads and 6 seven-a-side — representing 20 cities will battle it out for glory, good health, and a golden ticket to the Medical Football World Cup in Ireland.
Scalpels down, cleats on! This isn’t just about goals — it’s a celebration of sportsmanship, science, and camaraderie, with medics uniting for three days of competitive action and wellness on Spain’s sunny Costa Blanca.
The matches will take place at Torrevieja’s Ciudad Deportiva and the sports complex in Pilar de la Horadada, with major support from the local councils and Quirón Salud Hospital, the event’s official medical partner.
Organisers promise not just football but a full festival of fun, with social events, chill-out zones at Habaneras Shopping Centre, and a trophy-filled closing ceremony on Saturday, June 14.
And for those looking to flex their brain muscles too, the championship will feature parallel science sessions tackling hot health topics. Headlining the lineup is Dr. Jesús Mesones, who’ll speak on suicide prevention in football — part of a wider program covering cancer recovery through exercise, sports fatigue monitoring, and mental health in athletes.
Backed by major health foundations, local businesses, and the Spanish Suicide Prevention Foundation, this championship is proving football really can be good for the heart — in more ways than one.
With Torrevieja pushing to become the permanent home of the tournament — and even eyeing future world championship hosting rights — the 2025 edition could be the start of something huge on the Med.
From white coats to red cards — this is medicine, but not as you know it.
