The charity race “5K Steps That Matter,” organized by Quirónsalud in support of AFECÁNCER, was officially presented on Thursday as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Quirónsalud Torrevieja. The event was introduced by Rosa Cañón, Councillor for Public Health and Head of Radiation Oncology at Quirónsalud Torrevieja, alongside Diana Box, Councillor for Sports; Victoria Meneses, President of AFECÁNCER; and Rosa Ruiz, Regional Director of Communication and External Relations at Quirónsalud.

All proceeds from the race will go directly to AFECÁNCER, and participants will also have the option to support the cause through a “Dorsal 0” (zero bib) donation, allowing those who don’t take part in the run to contribute. The event is being organized in collaboration with the Torrevieja City Council, Grupo Brotons, and the Torrevieja Athletics Club.

The race is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2025, and will take place at Parque de las Naciones. Registration is now open via the official website www.pasosquecuentan.com, with a participant limit of 600. The website includes a real-time counter displaying how many slots are still available. To ensure the comfort of all attendees, the event will feature chemical toilets—including accessible facilities for those with reduced mobility—as well as a dedicated area for food and drink sales.

The event aims to collect “steps of solidarity” in support of individuals affected by cancer while highlighting the vital work AFECÁNCER does within the local community.

The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with bib collection for adult participants. The main 5K run will start at 10:00 a.m., with support from the Torrevieja Athletics Club to ensure runner safety along the route. At 11:00 a.m., the walking and Nordic walking categories will begin, offering an inclusive and accessible alternative for those who prefer a slower pace. Live music from the band Instinto Primate will provide entertainment from 11:00 to 12:00, setting a lively tone for the event.

The awards ceremony for the 5K race will take place at 11:15 a.m., followed by bib collection for the children’s races at 11:30 a.m. These races, adapted to different age groups, will begin at 12:00 p.m. within a secure area of the park. Categories include short distances for toddlers and preschoolers, with longer races for children up to 13 years old. Prizes will be awarded to young participants at 12:30 p.m., and throughout the morning, from 10:30 to 12:30, children will also be able to enjoy a play area filled with games and workshops.

To close out the day, there will be a dynamic, fun group zumba session from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., open to everyone attending.

This meaningful event blends fitness, fun, and solidarity—all for a great cause.
