The Generalitat Valenciana has taken another significant step toward the realization of one of Torrevieja’s most anticipated projects. The Official Gazette of the Valencian Government has published an announcement regarding the public exhibition of the Torrevieja City Council’s application for a concession to occupy and utilize public port land for the development of the Maritime Museum and the Eras de la Sal complex.
This marks a crucial administrative milestone, allowing the City Council to move forward with the final stages of the project’s approval process. The planned works in this historically significant area require authorization for the occupation of several spaces within the regional jurisdiction. Without this concession, the project cannot proceed.
Once granted, the concession will provide the necessary space for multiple initiatives, including the construction of an open-air multipurpose auditorium, primarily intended for the International Habaneras Competition. The auditorium is planned for the International Marina boatyard, covering an area of 12,542 square meters. The project also includes comprehensive landscaping and infrastructure development.
An Amphitheater Overlooking the Sea
The future auditorium will be designed as an amphitheater open to the Mediterranean, featuring essential facilities such as rehearsal rooms, changing rooms, and dressing areas to accommodate cultural and leisure events. Additionally, the existing parking lot in the Marina Internacional area will be reorganized to maintain vehicle access via San Julián Street. A pedestrian zone is also proposed to extend the Paseo de la Sal, incorporating green spaces and connecting with Calafates Park, Acequión Beach, and Doña Sinforosa Park.
Seven Key Development Areas
The project, designed by Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos (awarded the contract for 660,000 euros in March 2022), is divided into seven main zones:
- Eras de la Sal – The historical heart of the project.
- Museo del Mar – The new maritime museum.
- Calle Salero & Boatyard Redevelopment – A comprehensive upgrade of the area.
- Ice Factory – Revitalization of an existing landmark.
- Avenida Faleria – Infrastructure and accessibility improvements.
- Paseo Vistalegre & Tourist Office – Enhancing public spaces and visitor facilities.
- Calle San Julián – Urban development and connectivity enhancements.
Moving Forward
During a visit to Torrevieja last year, the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, pledged to expedite the administrative concession process. His commitment has been fulfilled with the recent publication of the public land concession notice, marking the beginning of a 15-day period for submitting objections.
With this step completed, Torrevieja moves closer to transforming the Eras de la Sal complex into a vibrant cultural and recreational hub, further solidifying its status as a key destination in the region.
