The first beach bar to open after fifteen months of closure, following expiry of the contract in January 2023 was in La Caleta, Cabo Roig, last weekend. It was followed by the beach bar in La Glea, Campoamor.

It is now expected that by the weekend the bar in Cala Bosque, La Zenia, perhaps the most popular of all, will also open its shutters, and in the following days the chiringuito in Cala Capitán will do likewise.

By the beginning of May, four of the six that have now been contracted should be open and operational.

With the exception of the La Glea restaurant service, the first three to open have been awarded to the previous concessionaire, Chiringuitos del Sol.

Lot 1, which includes Punta Prima, Cala Mosca and Cala Estaca, is still pending award, waiting for the recommended company to present further documentation.

It is estimated that the Orihuela City Council has lost 3 million euros in income due to the closure of the beach bars, however the new contracts will see the municipal coffers receive almost 2 million euros compared to the 900,000 euros that were obtained from the previous contract.
