Following the tragic fire that destroyed two towers of 14 and 10 floors in an apartment complex in Valencia on Thursday, the first visual inspection has found nine lifeless bodies while one person is still missing.

Initially, in a press conference, the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, said that there were ten bodies found by the Scientific Police in the building. However, she has since changed her statement, saying that the number of people who have lost their lives in the fire is nine. In addition, she pointed out that there is still one person whom they have not been able to find, so the fatalities could continue to increase.

According to Bernabé, the nine people found is the same as the number that was considered missing, with the exception of the missing person. In total there have been 14 that investigators have now located, four of them on the day of the fine.

Although the authorities feel that the number of deaths declared is correct, and that  there is little possibility of more fatalities, Firefighters and Scientific Police will carry out a second, more thorough inspection to rule out further deaths.

Four of the deceased belong to the same family, a couple with a 3-year-old boy and a 15-day-old girl. Apparently they could have been surprised by the virulence of the fire and died from the flames in the bathroom of the house without time to react to leave the house. In addition, it seems that an elderly couple who lived with their dog has also been identified among the possible victims.
