Here on the Costa’s golf is one of the biggest leisure time activities for both tourists and resident alike and with this in mind we have secured the services of Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services to provide a weekly round up of local golfing events and topics and in conjunction with us at THE LEADER will provide discounted golf prices to all of our readers and run our golf competitions.

Something in the air?

We are now in the Autumn high season period for golf on this region of Spain when green fee prices are at their highest and the courses SHOULD be in their best condition.

There does however seem to be something wrong in paradise because a number of the courses are not in their usual pristine condition.

La Peraleja have long term problems with the fairways and I have reported on this numerous occasions but now they have significant problems with the bunkers making them G.U.R and out of play.

At the superb Alicante course a number of the greens look like patchwork quilts caused by the need to re-turf due to a disease on the greens.

Even the well established Alenda course has an issue in the greens which were find one day and extremely poor after one nights heavy rain.

Just what is casing such unusual events, could it be the affects of the long hot summer, the impact of too much traffic in October or changes in course maintenance procedures?

The courses are obviously working hard to correct these issues but of course from a golfers perspective the sooner the better given the green fee prices being paid.

Given the as yet unknown long term affect of BREXIT and the current devaluation of the POUND visitors from the UK are paying more for their golf and if they find the courses in poor condition may turn their attentions to other areas of Spain or other countries and non of us want that to happen.

We at THE LEADER are committed to providing to our golfing readers affordable golf without the need to join a club or apply for a card but simply contact the number below to have instant access to discounted golf prices, many of which are exclusive to us.
