Orihuela, October 2025 — The municipalities of Emergencies and Education in Orihuela have launched a series of educational talks to teach schoolchildren how to act in emergency situations. The first session took place on Friday, October 24, at CEIP Francisco Girona de Arneva, and the programme will extend to all public and semi-private schools in the municipality.
The sessions, aimed at students from preschool through secondary school (ESO), are led by emergency technician Francisco Masip. He explains key safety measures in a simple, age-appropriate way, complemented by an emergency guide and an educational video to reinforce learning.
Víctor Valverde, Councilor for Emergencies, said, “We want to promote self-protection both in classrooms and at home, and ensure students understand the importance of calling 112 in any emergency.”
Topics covered include general emergency response guidelines, school evacuation protocols, basic self-protection and prevention tips, and correct use of the 112 emergency number. The Emergencies Department also offers to coordinate evacuation drills tailored to each school.
Education Councilor Vicente Pina added, “Safety can be taught, and instilling clear protocols from an early age improves how students respond in emergencies.”
The initiative is part of the local government’s ongoing commitment to student safety and emergency preparedness across Orihuela.
