Hundreds of residents visited the exhibition in Torre Pacheco
Murcia, 16 May 2026 — The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia held a public exhibition this morning in Torre Pacheco’s Town Hall square as part of the official events marking the 182nd anniversary of the force’s founding.
The display brought together a wide range of technical resources, police equipment and around 20 vehicles from several Guardia Civil specialist units operating in the Region of Murcia. These included the Traffic Group, Citizen Security Unit, Nature Protection Service, Weapons Intervention Unit, Fiscal and Borders Service, Underwater Activities Specialist Group, Prisoner Transfer Service, Drone Team and Canine Service.
Around 30 Guardia Civil officers took part in the event, explaining the duties of their respective units and showing members of the public the equipment and resources used in daily operations.
Visitors were also able to watch the Guardia Civil helicopter assigned to the Region of Murcia fly over the square several times during the exhibition.
The Canine Service staged several demonstrations, showing how trained dogs assist officers in searches for missing persons and in detecting drugs and explosives.
The Citizen Security Unit also carried out a dynamic demonstration, recreating an operational intervention for those attending.
The Drone Team, one of the latest additions to the Guardia Civil’s operational resources, presented its role in providing aerial support to units on the ground. Since its pilot launch in the 5th Zone, the unit has played a key role in searches for missing people and in supporting priority investigations.
The Traffic Group outlined its work in monitoring, regulating and controlling road traffic and transport, assisting road users, ensuring safety on interurban roads and investigating traffic accidents and road safety offences.
The Citizen Security and CBRN Unit explained its role in protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms through crime prevention, maintaining public safety in Guardia Civil areas of responsibility and responding to serious risks, disasters and public emergencies, including nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical incidents.
The Nature Protection Service, SEPRONA, highlighted its mission to safeguard the environment, natural resources, wildlife, forests and waterways, as well as to combat illegal trafficking in protected species and investigate and prevent forest fires.
The Canine Service showed how trained dogs support operational units in searches for missing persons, disaster response, the detection of drugs, explosives and cash, mountain rescues and other specialist operations.
The Underwater Activities Specialist Group, GEAS, presented its work in aquatic and underwater environments, including the search, location and recovery of people and objects, as well as surveillance, prevention and protection of cultural, historical and natural heritage in aquatic settings.
The Air Service explained its dual mission of providing aerial support to Guardia Civil units and ensuring the security of civil aviation facilities, passengers and baggage.
The Fiscal and Borders Service highlighted its role as a first line of defence against drug trafficking, illicit goods, smuggling and international networks involved in trafficking people and illegal substances, supported by units deployed at ports and airports.
The Weapons Intervention Unit, an exclusive competence of the Guardia Civil, presented its responsibilities in the control, storage, trade, acquisition, possession and use of regulated weapons, as well as activities involving explosives, ammunition and pyrotechnics.
