“As opening night for the run of musical comedy “9 to 5” nears (27–30 May), and rehearsals move into the Cardinal Beluga theatre, the main cast has taken time to reflect on the journey they’ve made together from the initial announcement to the cusp of first night.
The show sees Violet Newstead, Judy Bernly, and Doralee Rhodes form an alliance to overcome the male-dominated office environment of the 1970s and, similarly, lead actresses Jo Barley, Keeley Smith, and Laura Shaw feel they have created a special friendship and camaraderie which has extended beyond the rehearsal rooms: “The chemistry, trust, and genuine affection we have for each other mirrors the heart of our dynamic trio of characters and I know audiences will love it!” states Laura.
Keeley feels, “Working with Jo and Laura has been the most fulfilling journey of my life so far. They’ve really brought me out of my shell and boosted my confidence.
Fun fact: It’s been a blast!” Jo believes, “I had my sisters by my side in (previous production) “Sister Act”, and I still have them by my side now!”
