Orihuela’s popular coastal Blue Trail in Cabo Roig is ready to welcome walkers again after repair works were completed on the section between Cala Capitán and La Caleta beaches.

Orihuela Mayor Pepe Vegara visited the site alongside Coast Councillor Manuel Mestre, Infrastructure Councillor Víctor Valverde and Ecoplan public company manager Dámaso Aparicio. The works will allow this much-loved seafront walkway to reopen in the coming hours.

The repair project was launched after heavy rainfall in February and March, combined with strong waves during recent storms, caused significant damage to several sections of the masonry wall supporting the coastal path. Two sections collapsed completely, leaving part of the walkway without support and creating a safety risk for the many residents and visitors who use the route every day.

As the area forms part of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, Orihuela Town Hall prepared a technical report and submitted it to the Coastal Authority to obtain the necessary authorisation before work could begin.

The works focused on repairing and reinforcing the wall using riprap stone. The damaged areas were first cleared and stabilised before the collapsed sections were rebuilt, ensuring both the stability of the trail and the safety of pedestrians. The intervention was carried out at two separate points along the route, both affected by storm-related landslides caused by rainfall and wave impact.

Mayor Pepe Vegara praised the speed of the response, highlighting the importance of restoring “a space widely used by both residents and visitors.” He also thanked Ecoplan’s technical teams and workers for their efforts.

“This was an essential project to guarantee safety and preserve one of the busiest and most valued spots on our coastline,” Vegara said.

Coast Councillor Manuel Mestre noted that the Cabo Roig Blue Trail is “one of the most popular walking routes in Orihuela Costa” and required urgent action after the storm damage. Infrastructure Councillor Víctor Valverde added that the works were completed in approximately two weeks after receiving authorisation from the Coastal Authority, allowing this stretch of coastline to return fully to normal this Friday.
