The Guardia Civil has arrested two men, aged 30 and 35, over a violent robbery at an optician’s shop in Novelda, Alicante.
The incident happened on 27 March, when the two suspects entered the premises pretending to be customers. According to investigators, one of them distracted the employee by pretending to need an eye examination, while the other allegedly stole several pairs of designer glasses worth €1,113.
When the shop worker realised she was being robbed, she tried to stop the men from leaving with the stolen items. A violent struggle then broke out, during which the employee suffered several injuries.
Officers from the Guardia Civil’s Investigation Unit in Novelda identified and located the suspects despite the fact that they had no known fixed address. They were found in a public street on 30 March, three days after the robbery, and were immediately arrested.
The two men were brought before the Civil and Instruction Section of the Novelda Court of First Instance, which ordered both of them to be remanded in custody.
Both suspects have previous records and had been arrested just days earlier for their alleged involvement in around ten thefts from shops in Novelda and Aspe.
The Guardia Civil said the robbery was carried out with violence and intimidation, as the suspects allegedly used force to escape after being confronted by the employee.
