Alicante could be set for a significant boost to its economy as British production company Global Films Media Productions moves closer to filming six feature-length movies at the Ciudad de la Luz studios. Talks are well advanced, with filming expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
Negotiations have already included meetings at the Aguamarga studio complex, and agreements have reportedly been reached with several local service providers. If finalised, the productions are expected to inject around €30 million into the local economy and generate up to 15,000 overnight stays in hotels and tourist accommodation.
To manage the influx of cast and crew, Global Films is working with the Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Apartments of Alicante (APHA). The partnership, announced during APHA’s Christmas reception, will help coordinate accommodation across boutique hotels, tourist apartments and larger establishments. The shoots are expected to continue into early 2027, making careful planning essential.
Several high-profile projects are currently under discussion, including The Man Who Stole the Sky and The People of the Book. Directors linked to the films include Michael Haussman and Catherine Morshead. Global Films has an established reputation, having previously produced titles such as The Infiltrator (2016), City of Lies (2021), and the upcoming Words of War (2025), starring Maxine Peake, Ciaran Hinds, Jason Isaacs and Harry Lawtey.
The potential return of large-scale productions is particularly welcome following a challenging 2025 for the studios. If the deals are confirmed, the projects could once again position Alicante as a major filming destination, delivering long-lasting benefits for local hotels, businesses and the wider tourism sector.
