Opposition board members of the municipal company Orihuela Cultural have formally requested information that they say has been withheld from them for more than a year. Representatives from Cambiemos Orihuela, PSOE, and Ciudadanos have given the company’s management and the mayor a 10-day deadline to deliver key documents needed for proper oversight.
The requested information includes:
- A full list of staff positions (or, if no formal list exists, the names and roles of every employee).
- Certification proving that the manager stopped receiving a Technical Secretary allowance after becoming manager.
- CVs and scoring results of staff hired through LABORA since June 2023.
- Detailed scoring for candidates in the employment pool for hosts and custodians.
- The number of employees currently on medical leave or who have been on leave since June 2023.
- Information on any legal cases brought against the company by employees.
- Details of a formal warning issued to a worker, including the employee’s identity and the reason for the sanction.
According to the three parties, the company’s manager repeatedly promises to provide information during board meetings but never follows through.
Cambiemos Orihuela councillor Leticia Pertegal calls the situation “shameful,” saying the lack of transparency prevents councillors from performing their legal oversight duties and raises concerns about what might be hidden. PSOE councillor Isidro Grao says the company’s behaviour is “unacceptable,” arguing that withholding mandatory information undermines accountability and creates doubts about internal management. Ciudadanos councillor Mar Ezcurra adds that the refusal to provide documents—even forcing agenda items to be withdrawn from votes—suggests there is “something to hide.”
All three parties denounce what they describe as an opaque and unacceptable form of governance in a publicly owned company, insisting that transparency and access to information are essential for proper democratic oversight.
