• One suspect caught minutes after the assault; the second tracked down days later in Almoradí
• Victim suffers severe head injuries and is rushed to hospital
The Civil Guard has arrested two men, aged 27 and 24, after a shocking assault in a town park that left a local resident seriously injured and fighting for his life.
The attack took place late on October 16, when the victim was allegedly ambushed by two men who, for reasons still under investigation, began beating him repeatedly. In a horrifying twist, one of the attackers is said to have pulled out a hammer, delivering brutal blows to the victim’s head. The man was rushed by ambulance to Elda Hospital for emergency treatment.
A patrol rushed to the scene within minutes, managing to arrest one of the suspects on the spot. The second aggressor — the one who allegedly wielded the hammer — fled before officers arrived.
Investigators from the Novelda Civil Guard launched an immediate manhunt. Thanks to witness statements, evidence gathered at the scene and further inquiries, officers identified the fugitive as a resident of Almoradí. On November 4, they tracked him down in the town — along with the vehicle he used to escape — and arrested him.
During the arrest, officers discovered that the suspect was already wanted under a search-and-detain order issued by Granada’s Court of Instruction No. 7.
Both men have now appeared before the duty courts in Novelda and Orihuela. They were released pending trial but must comply with court-ordered precautionary measures.
