In a joint operation, Spain’s Civil Guard and National Police have dismantled a criminal organization involved in trafficking synthetic drugs. The raid resulted in the seizure of more than 203 kilograms of narcotics, including pills and powders, and the arrest of three men, who have now been remanded in custody without bail.
The investigation was launched as part of the Security Plan for Leisure Areas after officers became suspicious of the group’s lifestyle in Guardamar del Segura.
The breakthrough came when a routine patrol from the local Civil Guard station spotted a large-capacity van acting suspiciously. The vehicle attempted to evade the officers, raising further suspicion. Upon intercepting the van, the occupants initially refused to allow a search, citing an electronic security system that restricted access to the cargo area.
However, officers insisted and eventually forced entry. Inside, they discovered a sophisticated hidden compartment secured with an electronic locking mechanism. The van contained dozens of boxes filled with electrical equipment—used as a cover to conceal 40 bags of synthetic drugs, including MDMA, ketamine, and other substances. The total weight reached 203 kilograms, equivalent to approximately 334,000 doses.
A subsequent search of a property linked to the suspects in Guardamar uncovered additional evidence:
- €16,265 in cash
- Industrial machinery for drug production
- Precision scales and vacuum sealers
- Various documents relevant to the ongoing investigation
The arrested individuals—three Polish nationals aged 33, 37, and 40—face charges of belonging to a criminal organization, drug trafficking, and money laundering. They have been brought before Torrevieja’s Court of Instruction No. 3, which has ordered their immediate detention without bail.
The operation was carried out by the Guardamar del Segura Civil Guard station, the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) from Alicante, and the National Police’s Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit (UDYCO) in Murcia. The Canine Unit also assisted in the property search.
Authorities say this successful operation marks a major blow to international drug trafficking networks and helps protect public health and safety—especially in high-traffic tourist zones.
