Orihuela’s City Council isn’t taking any chances—after the devastating 2019 floods (DANA), they’re fighting back with a no-nonsense plan to make YOU emergency-ready!
City Emergency Councillor Víctor Valverde has unveiled a full-throttle public awareness campaign aimed at teaching residents what to do when disaster strikes—because, as he bluntly puts it, “most people don’t have a clue unless someone tells them!”
So what’s the plan?
- Step 1: A survival guide for all – Packed with essential tips on fires, floods, earthquakes, and freak weather. It’s available in Spanish, English, German, and Braille and will be posted everywhere—from schools to apartment buildings to coastal zones.
- Step 2: Teach the kids to save the day – Starting next school year, Orihuela’s primary schools will host emergency workshops, where Civil Protection-trained pros will turn students into mini-prep experts. Bonus: every child gets a fridge magnet with the 112 emergency number—just in case.
- Step 3: Danger zones get marked! – From flood-prone crossings to woodlands near town, signs in multiple languages will spell out what to do and what to avoid—especially during torrential rains when roads can become rivers.
Valverde says it best: “Prevention is everything. These simple actions could literally save lives.”
The rollout starts now and covers the entire Orihuela area—no one’s being left behind.
