On Thursday, May 8, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital will convene over 100 medical specialists to explore the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer—one of the most complex and challenging diseases in oncology due to its typically late diagnosis and aggressive progression.

Pancreatic cancer often develops silently, with few or no symptoms in its early stages, making early detection particularly difficult. When diagnosed early and the tumor remains localized, surgery continues to be the most effective treatment for curative purposes. In such cases, the tumor has not yet invaded surrounding tissue or metastasized to other parts of the body.

A major focus of the event will be the evolution of surgical oncology, particularly the growing role of robotic surgery. This technology represents a significant breakthrough in pancreatic cancer treatment, offering millimeter-level precision, enhanced 3D visualization, and superior instrument control. These advantages translate into reduced blood loss, less postoperative pain, and faster recovery times—ultimately allowing patients to begin follow-up treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy sooner.

The symposium, held at Quirónsalud Torrevieja, will be led by Dr. Pedro Bretcha, Head of the General Surgery and Surgical Oncology Department at the hospital. The gathering is part of a series of events celebrating the hospital’s 25th anniversary. Additional information and registration details are available on the Quirónsalud website.
