The recently formed Asociación de vecinos Costa Campoamor (Costa Campoamor Neighbourhood Association) has launched a coordinated effort to address longstanding infrastructure and service deficiencies in Campoamor, citing what they describe as persistent neglect by the Orihuela City Council.
The association’s primary objective is to formally highlight the issues that residents have endured for years, including poor maintenance and inadequate public services, while pressing for prompt and effective solutions.
In addition, the group aims to collaborate with other coastal associations, such as Unidos por la Costa, to amplify their advocacy efforts.
On March 24, the association submitted a letter to Orihuela Costa Councillor Manuel Mestre, requesting a meeting to present their concerns and propose necessary actions. Key demands outlined in the letter include:
- Immediate clearing of the riverbeds and banks along urban ravines from the N-332 to the Coastal District, to mitigate health risks and prevent potential fires and flooding.
- Construction of pavements in underserved areas.
- Urgent asphalting of roads currently in poor condition, despite the recent awarding of a €1 million contract for tarmacking work in Orihuela Costa.
Additional requests focus on improving cleanup operations, enhancing fire prevention systems in local pine forest zones, implementing more effective pest control measures to address mosquito infestations, replacing damaged or missing waste containers, and upgrading beach services.
The association has expressed frustration over the failure of Councillor Mestre’s response to their meeting request and stresses the importance of open dialogue to address these critical community concerns.
