Totana, April 9, 2025 – The Civil Guard in the Region of Murcia has arrested a 60-year-old woman in Totana for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash valued at around €30,000 from five homes where she worked as a domestic employee. The arrest was made as part of the ongoing “Jewellery Cleaner 2” operation, under the national plan against residential burglary.
The investigation began after a resident of Totana reported a large quantity of jewellery missing from her home. She suspected her housekeeper, who had regular access to the property. Civil Guard officers found no signs of forced entry, shifting the focus to individuals who could freely enter the home.
Crucially, surveillance footage from inside the house showed the employee rummaging through furniture while performing cleaning duties, confirming the suspicions.
As the case gained attention, several other local residents came forward reporting missing jewellery and money. Although they had not filed official complaints at the time, they all identified the same woman—who had also worked for them—as the common link.
The Civil Guard was able to trace the stolen jewellery to local shops, confirming it had been sold by the suspect.
Investigators concluded that the woman abused the trust placed in her by her employers, stealing with ease and without immediate detection. Once all evidence was gathered, she was formally charged with five counts of theft and robbery.
The operation highlights the importance of vigilance and trust in domestic employment, especially when access to personal spaces is involved.
