Murcia’s Civil Guard has conducted an investigation that led to three individuals being investigated for allegedly committing offenses against land use and urban planning, the protection of historical heritage, and the environment by carrying out construction on specially protected land.
This investigation was launched as part of SEPRONA’s efforts to ensure sustainable and balanced urban development in the Region of Murcia. Their goal is to prevent illegal activities that could harm land planning, urban development, historical heritage, and the landscape.
As part of the operation, officers from the Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) carried out inspections to identify potential illegal constructions on protected land.
During these inspections, SEPRONA specialists focused on detecting and locating plots of protected land where construction was taking place without proper authorization.
In the municipality of Mazarrón, Civil Guard officers discovered three unauthorized construction projects on protected land:
• A newly built single-family home, along with a prefabricated house and a water tank.
• A renovated house.
• The clearing and fencing of land for the construction of a campsite.
All these projects were carried out on specially protected land, with particular concern surrounding the planned campsite, as it was located within priority conservation habitats and part of Murcia’s ecological corridor network.
The Civil Guard confirmed that these activities violated land use regulations. According to technical reports, the affected areas were incompatible with urban planning laws under the current General Municipal Plan of Mazarrón.
Operation Mortero has resulted in three developers being investigated for executing unauthorized construction projects. They are now facing legal proceedings as alleged perpetrators of offenses against land use and urban planning, the protection of historical heritage, and the environment.
