A resident of Dolores, José María Argilés, has accused the mayor, José Joaquín Hernández, of common assault, following a recent tense confrontation. The incident occurred in the town on the afternoon of August 9th.
“We traded insults, but at no time did I hit him, nor will I ever hit him,” said the mayor, who now adds that he regrets the unpleasant situation, as they have known each other for many years via a friendship through his father, he said.
The police report indicates that the matter started with an argument between the pair. It goes on to highlight that Argilés, aged 71, has “several lacerations with blood on his arms”.
When asked about the wounds, he said that he has a problem with his skin and that he bleeds easily, at the slightest touch, according to the police report.
Speaking about the injuries suffered, José María Argilés emphasises that he still has discomfort on parts of his body, “because he grabbed me by the armpits and threw me to the ground. He was very aggressive and people standing by had to separate us”, he says about the encounter.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Dolores, who has also reported the incident to the Civil Guard, explained that he has been suffering “insults and threats from his neighbour for ten years” and that this episode “is now going to be used politically to harm me,” something that Argilés denies.
Nevertheless, with both men filing denuncias it very much looks as though the matter will have to be settled before a judge.
