The Councillor for Festivals, Nely Baile, explained that “the carnival is part of our traditional popular festivities and is a factor of cultural and tourist promotion for Santa Pola, which favours the creativity and imagination of children and adults through costumes, something that undoubtedly contributes to integration and social cohesion.”

On Friday, February 9, the carnival party will be located in the centre of Santa Pola and will begin at 5:30 p.m. with batucada and giant clowns in the Glorieta.

It will be from 7:00 p.m. when the traditional costume contest will begin in the municipal tent next to the Castle, which will award various categories according to different ages.

The next morning the party moves to Gran Alacant. At 12:00 on Saturday the 10th, a fun children’s festival will begin outside the José Antonio Alemañ municipal pavilion with the participation of the Pampol Teatre company, which will feature live music, puppets, games and dances.

Participants, both individually and in groups, can register on the same day of the contest, Friday, February 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the municipal tent located on the side of the Castillo-Fortaleza, in only one of the categories, and minors under 14 years of age must be counted with authorisation.

The jury will be made up of the Festival Councillor, a member of the festival associations and a member of the Santa Pola festival commission, and the evaluation criteria will be based on the originality of the costume, visible effort in the preparation and makeup, dynamics on stage, grace and sympathy.
