The Joaquín Chapaprieta Municipal Institute of Culture has approved a contract worth almost €3 million per year to ensure a stable, high-quality cultural programme.
TORREVIEJA, 2 June 2026.
Torrevieja City Council, through the Joaquín Chapaprieta Municipal Institute of Culture, has approved the tender for a new management contract covering the Municipal Theatre, the Torrevieja International Auditorium and, for the first time, the city’s Floating Museums.
The contract, approved at an extraordinary meeting of the Institute’s governing board on Friday, 29 May, will ensure the continuity of services once the current agreement, awarded four years ago to the Esatur-Mediapro joint venture, expires on 31 August.
The new tender has an annual base budget of €2,931,882.70 and an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of three extensions. The total estimated value of the contract is €10,351,610.32.
A key new feature is the inclusion of the Floating Museums, one of Torrevieja’s most distinctive tourist and heritage attractions. Under the new contract, the museums will have specialised visitor service staff, professional ticket sales management, access control and permanent opening and closing services.
The Municipal Institute of Culture said the contract will help professionalise the management of municipal cultural spaces and improve services for both residents and visitors.
The agreement is also designed to guarantee a stable, varied and high-quality cultural programme throughout the year, supporting events, performances, exhibitions and other activities at the city’s main cultural venues.
According to the Institute, these facilities have become an important driver of economic activity in Torrevieja, attracting visitors, strengthening cultural tourism and benefiting sectors such as hospitality, retail and services.
With the new tender, Torrevieja aims to consolidate its cultural infrastructure and reinforce its position as one of the leading cultural centres in the Vega Baja area and the wider province of Alicante.
