The Guardia Civil has arrested three men for their involvement in a burglary in Agost. One of them has also been charged with a separate burglary at the end of last year in a luxury residence in Madrid’s “Golden Mile.” A judge has ordered the main suspect into provisional custody.
The investigation began on January 18, when a resident of Agost reported a burglary in her home. The intruders broke in by climbing and forcing open a window, stealing various pieces of jewellery and cash worth over €4,000.
Following the report, investigators from the Guardia Civil’s Novelda unit launched an operation to solve the crime. They first analysed security camera footage from the area, which led them to identify the getaway vehicle. The car was registered to a 42-year-old Ukrainian national, who owned a fleet of 18 vehicles that he rented out informally without legal contracts. After gathering evidence, officers arrested him in Alicante on February 6.
Further investigations identified the vehicle’s user, a 48-year-old Russian national, who was later arrested in Finestrat for his suspected involvement.
The third suspect, a 45-year-old Georgian national with a criminal record for property crimes, was identified as the actual burglar. Tracking him was particularly difficult, as he had no known residence, job, family, or social ties in Spain. Additionally, the National Police had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection with another burglary in Madrid’s “Golden Mile” at the end of 2024, where he stole numerous valuables and cash.
Thanks to police intelligence work, authorities learned that the suspect was arriving in Spain on February 22 on a flight from Romania. A special operation was set up at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, where he was arrested upon arrival, with support from the Fiscal and Border Investigation Unit (UDAIFF).
The suspect, charged with two counts of burglary, was brought before the Elche Court of Investigation, which ordered his immediate imprisonment.
