Joaquín Marzá Mercé, headmaster of Hurchillo Public School, has been nominated for the Global Teacher Prize, recognising his contributions to educational change and creating a modern school.
Born in Cálig (Castellón), Joaquín has a teaching degree from Jaime I University in Castellón and multiple master’s degrees. He served as sports coordinator for Orihuela City Council and coordinates Spain’s Network of Creative and Innovative Centres.
Joaquín has received numerous awards, led the globally recognised “Educational Contract of the Earth” project, and his nutrition and physical activity project won the Naos Prize for Spain’s best school canteen.
Ranked among Spain’s top 10 teachers, he has authored educational materials and publishes regular articles in specialised magazines.
Under his leadership, Hurchillo Public School was named an innovative centre by the University of Salamanca.
Joaquín emphasises transformation over change and is currently working on new educational projects. The Global Teacher Prize is valued at one million euros.
