The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, along with the councillor of Education, Ricardo Recuero, the Director of Education in Alicante, José Antonio Castaño, the Inspector of Education, Manuela Lopez, have visited the new public school for Infant and Primary aged children CEIP Immaculada, which was formally opened on Monday, 30 September.

The construction of this new school has taken 14 months, three months less than planned in the contract, and on Monday 433 students were being taught in the new school building.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, has expressed his satisfaction with the speed in the construction of this school, which has been built in a shorter time than planned and thanked both the Department of Education of the Generalitat and the company awarded for the great work done for the implementation of this modern school.

The new CEIP Inmaculada has an investment of 7.3 million euros and includes the construction of 6 units of kindergarten, 12 units of primary education, a dining room for 400 people in two shifts, gym, library and spaces adapted to offer all the educational services required by the children.

It is built on the site of the former Inmaculada school, which is over 6,000 square meters in size, and has a total built area of 4,600 square meters, of which 3,000 will be dedicated to open spaces for the enjoyment of the students, with playgrounds, landscaping, a multi-sports court and porches.

The new school, which has been built by the company Orthem Servicios y Actuaciones Ambientales, will generate almost zero energy consumption and will considerably reduce the school’s carbon footprint. Thus, the new infrastructure incorporates a system of solar panels that covers a large part of the building. In addition, the centre has a design that maximizes the use of natural light and has an efficient air conditioning system that ensures proper air renewal in all classrooms.
