The town of Rafal will host a new edition of its Minimaratón on April 30, introducing a major change this year: the event will be held as a charity fundraiser to support children with leukaemia.
For the first time, the race is being jointly organised by CEIP Trinitario Seva and IES Rafal, with backing from the local council through its sports and education departments.
Councillor Gabriel Valero said the initiative reinforces the event’s educational and community spirit, highlighting sport as a tool for “coexistence, awareness and social commitment.”
Community-wide participation
The Minimaratón will feature a series of races adapted to different age groups, with distances ranging from 200 metres for younger pupils to 2,000 metres for older students. The event will involve the entire local education community, including students, teachers and families.
Adding a unique element, the day will also include a live radio broadcast produced by students, streamed via the Town Hall’s YouTube channel. Pupils will conduct interviews and provide coverage throughout the event, expanding participation beyond the races themselves.
Sport with a social purpose
Mayor Noemí Cutillas described the event as a powerful example of collaboration between schools, families and local authorities, translating into an initiative with strong social impact.
Organisers say this year’s Minimaratón not only promotes physical activity and community engagement, but also channels that energy into a meaningful cause—supporting children affected by leukaemia—marking a new chapter for one of Rafal’s most inclusive local events.
