Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councillor for Urban Services, Sandra Sánchez, accompanied by the project director, Cayetano Bernabé, and representatives of the contracted company, visited the ongoing repaving and repair works on the Levante Breakwater this morning. The works extend over a total length of 1,247 meters and involve an investment of €6,543,733, including VAT.
The mayor highlighted the significant progress made so far, noting that the structural reinforcement of the metal framework and repairs to the breakwater’s surface have already been fully completed. The installation of the new technical paving is well underway, and prefabricated concrete bench units are now being installed along the perimeter of the breakwater. The first sections of the new stainless steel railing are also being put in place.
Mayor Dolón stated that if the current pace continues, the works should be finished by August. A minor delay was reported by the contractor due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy rains and strong winds during the winter and spring. There was also a delay in the delivery of the architectural and monumental lighting, which is funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU Funds).
ACCESS RAMP TO THE LEVANTE BREAKWATER
In addition, the mayor provided updates on the urban development works around the port area, with particular attention to the fairground, where utility ducting and infrastructure are currently being installed.
He also noted that the works connecting the Levante Breakwater to the leisure center are being coordinated with the concessionaire of that facility. He announced that once the new access road to the fishing market and Marina Salinas Club is completed and operational, construction of the access ramp structure will begin.
Finally, Mayor Dolón emphasized the City Council’s goal: to have the perimeter development around the leisure center completed, the breakwater connection platform operational, and the restoration of the Mínguez Wharf finalized in time for the opening of the new leisure center.
