The Local Government Board (JGL) has approved the contracting of the drafting of the project for the construction of a Day Center for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
The base tender budget for drafting the project amounts to €299,749.67 (including VAT), with a contract duration of six months.
The construction of the Day Center is estimated to cost approximately €5,500,000 (excluding VAT), and it could be fully completed by early 2027.
On Tuesday morning, the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the Councilor for NGOs, Trudy Páze, and the President of the Alzheimer’s Association of Family and Friends of Torrevieja (AFA), Purificación García, announced the approval by the Local Government Board of the contract for the basic and execution project, as well as the health and safety plan and the waste management plan for the construction of a Day Center for patients with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. This will be carried out through an early budget allocation process.
The planned Day Center will be located on a plot adjacent to the Quirón Hospital in Torrevieja, with a surface area of 7,902 m², a buildable area of 1,566 m², and a maximum possible construction area of 2,700 m². Each bidder will present a proposal based on the specific needs of the facility.
The mayor confirmed the project drafting budget is €299,749.67 (VAT included), and the drafting period will last six months. The deadline for submitting bids will be 30 calendar days from April 30, the date on which the tender notice will be sent to the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
Dolón noted that the final project will be completed before the end of this year, allowing construction tenders to be issued by late 2025 or early 2026, with the Day Center potentially finished by early 2027. The estimated construction cost is approximately €5.5 million (excluding VAT).
The proposed Day Center will include the following areas:
- Access and Administration Area: Reception, cloakroom, luggage room, Director’s office, 4 administration offices, multipurpose staff room, kitchenette, auditorium, and visitor restrooms with accessibility features.
- General Services Area: Dining room, accessible toilets for dining area, kitchen, pantry, waste room, cleaning room, laundry, 4 storage rooms, male and female staff locker rooms, utility room, and corridors.
- Specialized Care Area: 3 multipurpose activity rooms, rest and social room, rehabilitation room, occupational therapy room, 3 physiotherapy cabins, psychology office, 2 treatment and care rooms, medical consultation room, hair salon, podiatry room, 2 multipurpose offices, male and female accessible restrooms, 2 geriatric bathrooms, and corridor access.
Finally, the president of AFA Torrevieja expressed gratitude to the mayor and the Councilor for NGOs for their strong commitment to this project, which is urgently needed due to increasing demand. The association currently has a waiting list of 30 to 35 individuals.
