The Civil Guard is investigating the discovery of the body of a young man that was found in the water on Las Higuericas beach in Pilar de la Horadada on Tuesday morning.

The body shows no apparent signs of violence and, according to a spokesman, the Civil Guard considers that it could be a man of North African origin who died during a boat trip from Algeria to the Alicante coast.

The discovery occurred around ten in the morning on the beach of Las Higuericas. A number of bathers spotted the body in the water and pulled it to the shore.

The Civil Guard has verified that it is a man between 20 and 30 years old, possibly of North African origin, who did not carry any identification. He was wearing a tank top and boxer shorts.

The Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Pilar de la Horadada has notified the judicial commission to proceed with the examination of the corpse and its subsequent removal to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Alicante, where an autopsy will be performed.

Just three weeks ago Dénia fishermen located the bodies of four immigrants in their nets who it is thought died when the boat in which they were traveling sank.
