Torrevieja Town Hall has strengthened the resources of its Local Police force with the addition of eight new vehicles, representing an investment of more than €325,000 over the next four years.
The new fleet, acquired through a renting contract, includes three hybrid SUV patrol cars, a nine-seater police van and four fully equipped motorcycles. All vehicles are fitted with specialist police equipment designed to improve operational capacity, road safety duties, emergency response and public security across the municipality.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón presented the new vehicles alongside Security and Emergencies Councillor Federico Alarcón, Local Police Director General Alejandro Morer and Chief Superintendent Óscar Cartón.
The council said the fleet expansion responds to the growing needs of the Local Police, following an increase in personnel and the continued population growth of Torrevieja, which now has more than 113,000 registered residents. The aim is to ensure officers have modern, efficient and reliable vehicles adapted to the demands of daily policing.
The contract is divided into two lots. The first includes three non-plug-in hybrid petrol SUV patrol vehicles and a nine-seater diesel police van. The second covers the four police motorcycles, which will be used for surveillance, traffic control and community policing.
The new patrol cars feature automatic transmission, five doors, five seats, reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption, as well as modern safety and driver-assistance systems. The police van, also automatic, is intended for the safe and comfortable transport of officers during special operations, major events and extraordinary security deployments.
All vehicles carry the official image of Torrevieja Local Police and include latest-generation police technology, such as LED emergency lighting, electronic sirens, TETRA radio systems, public address equipment, operational lighting, parking assistance cameras, auxiliary batteries and approved police livery.
They are also equipped with intervention and safety materials including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fire blankets, road signalling equipment, professional torches, barrier tape and other tools designed to improve officers’ response in different incidents.
The total investment amounts to €325,770 including VAT over the 48-month contract. Of this, €243,064 covers the three patrol cars and the police van, while €82,705.92 is allocated to the four motorcycles.
The contract includes full maintenance, mechanical repairs, tyre replacement, technical inspections, comprehensive insurance with no excess, 24-hour roadside assistance, taxes, registration and homologation. Replacement vehicles must also be provided in the event of long-term breakdowns or accidents, ensuring police services are not disrupted.
The council said the renting model allows Torrevieja to maintain an updated, safe and technologically advanced police fleet while avoiding future costs linked to ageing vehicles.
