Orihuela — Residents of Orihuela came together on Wednesday for the first participatory workshop of the “Refluye Mi Río” project, aimed at restoring the Segura River both environmentally and socially.
The two-hour session at María Moliner Library brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to discuss the river’s challenges and propose ideas for its revitalization. Participants worked in themed groups on topics such as environmental education, flood management, civic responsibility, safety, and neighbourhood connections to the river. Ideas were later shared in an open plenary session, with participants voting on the most important actions.
Councilor for the Environment, Noelia Grao, said: “This workshop shows real citizen commitment to a sustainable city connected with its river.”
All proposals will be compiled into a “Carta de Recomendaciones del Río Segura”, guiding future municipal and community actions. The project continues with more workshops and an online survey.
