Murcia – The Civil Guard in the Region of Murcia has carried out an investigation into the alleged identity theft of a woman from Torre Pacheco. The investigation has led to the identification of a relative of the victim as the suspected perpetrator of the crimes of identity theft and document forgery.
The case began when the woman reported to the Civil Guard that she had received multiple notifications from the Spanish Traffic Authority (DGT) for traffic violations linked to a vehicle registered in her name.
She explained that she did not own the vehicle in question and had no idea why she was being fined—amounting to nearly €5,000—for infractions she did not commit.
Upon gathering information, the Civil Guard confirmed that the vehicle was indeed registered in her name and that the ownership transfer had been carried out online.
Investigators then asked the woman if she had ever handed over her ID card (DNI), lost it, or used it for any online procedure. She stated that her ID had always remained in her possession.
Months later, authorities discovered that another vehicle was in the process of being registered in her name with the DGT.
Evidence gathered during the investigation revealed that a family member of the victim was behind the fraudulent activity, allegedly taking advantage of a moment of inattention to photograph her ID card.
A 54-year-old man has now been located and is under investigation as the suspected author of the crimes of identity theft and document forgery.
