The suspects belong to the family of a homicide victim killed in a clan feud nearly a year ago
Alfafar (Valencia), May 19, 2025 — The Guardia Civil has arrested two men in Alfafar for the illegal possession of multiple firearms, nearly 350 rounds of ammunition, and an array of bladed weapons, including machetes and katanas. The suspects, aged 76 and 38, are members of the same family as the victim of a homicide that occurred in the town on May 25 of last year.
The homicide, which stemmed from a violent altercation between two rival clans, has led to ongoing tensions and repeated confrontations over the past year. The perpetrator of the killing is currently serving time in prison. However, disputes between the two families have persisted, allegedly fueled by an ethnic custom that dictates the family of the killer should relocate—particularly problematic since both families reside in close proximity.
A recent incident on April 21 saw a renewed clash between the two clans. According to witnesses, shots may have been fired into the air. Although local police initially dispersed the fight, it reignited shortly thereafter with increased violence and more participants. Following the altercation, officers recovered several bladed weapons, blunt objects, ammunition, and a spent cartridge casing.
In response to subsequent threats reported by one of the clans, the Guardia Civil conducted a search of the home belonging to relatives of the homicide victim. During the operation, officers discovered a wide cache of weapons, including a sawn-off shotgun, three revolvers, a blank-firing pistol, and various edged weapons such as machetes and Japanese-style swords. One of the recovered firearms is believed to have been used in the April clash.
Additionally, nearly 350 rounds of ammunition matching the calibers of the seized weapons were found, along with shell casings indicating that shots had previously been fired. A spent casing collected at the scene of the recent fight is being analyzed to determine if it matches any of the recovered firearms.
The two detained individuals are Spanish nationals and face charges including drug trafficking, making threats, and illegal possession of firearms. The case is currently being handled by the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 5 of Catarroja.
