A 39-year-old man has been arrested in Puerto Real, Cádiz, over the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material, most of it reportedly involving babies.
The Guardia Civil said officers discovered more than 500 files of illegal content stored on the suspect’s computers. Investigators believe the man had been storing and sharing a large quantity of sexual abuse material involving minors.
Almost four terabytes of digital material are now being examined by specialists from the Technological Investigation Team of the Judicial Police Unit in Cádiz.
The operation, codenamed “Blackup”, began in April after investigators detected several images of child sexual abuse circulating online. Officers then carried out an extensive analysis of more than 500 files allegedly accumulated by the suspect in his own cloud storage system.
According to investigators, many of the images and videos were of an especially degrading and brutal nature, made even more shocking by the fact that the victims were minors — and in most cases, babies.
After confirming the alleged criminal activity, officers traced the suspected offender to Puerto Real, Cádiz.
The man was arrested on May 28 on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material. His home was also searched, with officers seizing a large quantity of computer equipment.
Items confiscated during the raid included three computers, three hard drives, five external memory devices, five mobile phones and several recording cameras.
Police are now extracting and analysing the seized digital material to determine whether there are identifiable victims, whether more illegal content is stored on the devices, and whether any of the material was shared or distributed.
The complex investigation was carried out by specialists from the Guardia Civil’s Computer and Technological Crimes Team within the Judicial Police Unit in Cádiz.
