ALMERÍA — Four people have been arrested after a violent robbery attempt that left a truck driver seriously injured — shot, beaten, and run over — at a transport park in La Mojonera (Almería).
The shocking attack took place on September 21, when the suspects ambushed two lorry drivers resting in the “Ciudad del Transporte.” According to investigators, one driver managed to escape, but his colleague was brutally assaulted — struck with clubs and metal chains, run down three times, and even shot before the attackers fled.
Guardia Civil officers launched “Operation Marmolista” to hunt down the culprits, who turned out to be members of a local family clan suspected of a series of robberies in the area. All four face charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms. One suspect was already wanted under an active arrest warrant.
Raids on several properties uncovered a stash of illegal weapons: two handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun stolen in 2022, 9mm ammunition, knives, machetes, and the very chains used in the assault. Officers also discovered illegal power hookups, adding electricity fraud to the list of alleged crimes.
The four detainees have been remanded to the Almería Court of Duty. The Guardia Civil described the assault as “exceptionally violent,” underscoring the extreme risks faced by truckers targeted while resting on Spain’s highways.
