PILAR DE LA HORADADA – Mayor José María Pérez has announced that the long-anticipated construction of an auditorium in Pilar de la Horadada is set to begin within the next two years, marking a major milestone in the municipality’s cultural development. The announcement came during an interview in which the mayor took stock of his administration’s achievements at the halfway point of his term.
Pérez highlighted several completed and upcoming projects aimed at improving services and infrastructure in the town, especially during the busy summer season when the population quadruples due to tourism. One such initiative is the activation of the seasonal fire brigade station, which began operations this Monday. The station is part of the council’s broader strategy to ensure safety and preparedness during the high-demand summer months.
Another significant development is the launch of a free inter-town bus service, which will be fully accessible to residents with mobility challenges or without private transport.
“It will be the first time that there will be a bus that is free and adapted for everyone, especially for those who don’t have a vehicle, who are elderly, who don’t have a license… we’ve made a commitment to this, and I hope everyone uses it,” said Pérez.
In addition to transport and emergency services, the mayor announced the opening of a new Cultural Centre and a Holy Week Museum, enhancing the town’s cultural offerings. However, he acknowledged ongoing gaps in infrastructure—particularly the absence of a dedicated auditorium and a modern senior centre.
“The auditorium is what people are also waiting for, and I hope that in the next two years, if it’s not finished, it will at least begin. The same goes for a retirement home, since the elderly also need to be cared for,” Pérez stated. “They have a decent location now, but it’s not what it should be, and residents are asking me for this.”
The mayor also addressed other pressing concerns such as flood prevention, citing the need for improvements to the municipality’s southern ravine. He revealed that the City Council has requested a meeting with the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) to review the status of the planned interventions.
With the summer season underway and several key projects in motion, Mayor Pérez emphasized the administration’s ongoing commitment to addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of Pilar de la Horadada’s residents and visitors.
