Families in Orihuela will have access to a school support service throughout the academic year, aimed at those who, due to work commitments, lack of time, or other circumstances, are unable to supervise their children outside of school hours. “We are convinced that these support classrooms will help improve work-life balance for families in our municipality,” said Mª Carmen Portugal, Councillor for Family Affairs.
A Project Designed to Support Families
This service, which began in the last quarter of the previous year, is part of the “km0” program run by the Family Department, offering various services designed to support local families.
Following last year’s success—when all available spots were filled—the program will now run for the entire school year. Children will have a suitable space to complete their homework with the support of professionals.
As Councillor Carmen Portugal explained, “these professionals will be there to assist and guide children in their daily homework tasks.”
What she failed to state was that the scheme is provided only for the benefit of city based families.
The service will take place at the Fernando de Loazes State Public Library in Orihuela, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in two sessions:
5:30 PM to 6:30 PM for primary school students
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for secondary school students
Families interested in enrolling their children can reserve a spot by sending an email to atencionfamiliasorihuela@gmail.com. Availability is limited, so early registration is recommended.
The goal of this initiative by the Family Department is to support work-life balance by offering families a resource that helps them manage their professional responsibilities while ensuring their children’s academic development is well-supported.
