The Elche Council will dedicate a monument a local favourite dish, crusty rice, or arroz con costra, as a tribute to the typical dish of the municipality.
The mayor, Carlos González, has supported the request of the Asociación de Amigos del Arroz con Costra to place a sculpture in the shape of a pot in a roundabout in the city in order to promote and give visibility to this dish that is part of the tradition Elche gastronomy.
This will not be the first roundabout dedicated to local food in Elche, as a giant pomegranate is already watching traffic on one of the main roads into the city.
Specifically, an agreement will be signed with the association for the construction of this sculpture that will be more than two metres high and will be covered with traditional broken tiles and iron. The architect will be Manuel Gomáriz and the works will have an execution period of six months.
González thanked the association for its involvement in the festivities and stated that the Government Team will continue working so that rice with a crust is declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
