The Department of Citizen Security in Orihuela, has organized a specialized criminal and procedural training course on gender-based violence and the VioGén 2 system, aimed at Local Police officers, Guardia Civil personnel, and other staff involved with VioGén. The initiative seeks to improve institutional responses to cases of gender-based violence.
The course, taught by Juan Antonio Jover Pinar, a Guardia Civil officer, focused on operational use of VioGén 2, police responsibilities, data protection, and intervention protocols. It also included modules on handling parental conflicts with implications in the educational environment.
Training was divided into five modules:
- Legal definitions and handling of gender and domestic violence
- Arrest, police custody, and report preparation
- Competencies of the Court for Violence Against Women and protection orders
- Police risk assessment and management of high-complexity VioGén 2 cases
- Detailed operation of the VioGén 2 system and its management tools
Councillor Mónica Pastor emphasized that “the Local Police of Orihuela are taking a major step forward in specialization and coordination in gender violence cases. Training is an essential tool to better protect victims and ensure rapid, safe, and effective interventions.”
She added that this program will help officers improve risk assessments, activate protection protocols more accurately, and understand the progression of each case within the VioGén 2 system, strengthening the city’s overall response to gender-based violence.
Note: VioGen is a nationwide tool used by the Spanish police to monitor, assess, and manage cases of domestic and gender-based violence, helping authorities protect victims and respond effectively to high-risk situations.
