The Councillor for Culture of Orihuela, Gonzalo Montoya, has highlighted the importance of the San Isidro Murals in the cultural life of the city, announcing the return of “our great museum on the street after a year of absence”.
The 10th Edition of the Murals of San Isidro has been presented with the participation of the Councillor for Culture of Orihuela, together with Eva Gea, director of the Jesús María San Isidro School, and Ana Lizón, representative of the members of the Murales de San Isidro platform.
This edition, which coincides with International Museum Day, on May 18, and the festivities of the San Isidro neighbourhood, will take place from May 17 to 19, and promises to offer a weekend full of diverse cultural activities. From art exhibitions to live concerts, to interactive workshops, the San Isidro Murals have become a meeting point for the residents of Orihuela and a notable tourist attraction.
Friday, May 17 will mark the beginning of this celebration with the official inauguration in the San Isidro Park, followed by an exhibition on the life and work of Miguel Hernández at the Jesús María San Isidro School. The day will continue with the reception of artists and the painting of murals, accompanied by a parade by the Dacapo Musical Group and a futsal tournament organised by the CFP Orihuela Deportiva. The day will conclude with concerts in the Plaza de la Ermita and a session by DJ Sergio Salinas.
Saturday, May 18 will be packed with activities including mural painting, exhibitions, sports tournaments, children’s parties and workshops for the whole family.
In addition, a dramatized route through the Murals of San Isidro will be carried out for art lovers. The day will culminate with a series of concerts in the Plaza de la Ermita, with performances by prominent local bands.
On Sunday, May 19, the mural painting will continue, along with more exhibitions, workshops and activities to enjoy with the family. The day will conclude with an emotional closing concert by “Aire Puro” at the Guernica, where this cultural weekend will come to a close.
In addition, a tourist train service will be offered throughout the weekend, allowing transportation for attendees. Montoya highlighted that “the tourist train service will facilitate transportation between the different activities and points of interest of the event, guaranteeing a comfortable and accessible experience for all attendees.” The service hours will be on Friday, May 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. :00 to 2:00 p.m. The itinerary will include stops at Plaza de la Soledad, Calderón de la Barca, Glorieta Gabriel Miró, Orihuela Town Hall and Murales de San Isidro.
