The Torrevieja Greens, Los Verdes, this week point out that the first asphalting project and improvements in itinerary accessibility, approved on April 8, 2022, have still has not materialised due to the incompetence of the ruling Partido Popular.

“The most bloody thing about all these projects that never materialise is to see how those responsible for them laugh in the face of the citizen, delaying execution dates over and over again,” says the spokesperson for Los Verdes, Israel Muñoz.

And this project has been dragging on for more than two years. The councillor delegate, on May 13, stated that the works would be carried out in the last quarter of 2022. On November 11 of the same year, the tender for the contracting file was agreed.

Seven days later, the aforementioned councillor, in the program “Basis de bien”, once again delayed the start of the works, indicating that they would begin before the end of December.

However, this has never materialised, the work has continued to be delayed and brought back to its bidding phase, due to the deadlines having passed and the consequent increase in prices.

And so, we have reached April 20, 2023 in which the withdrawal of the contract file is approved, due to problems with the material components. For this reason, a new project is necessary, with updated prices. In other words, we start over from the beginning and for the fourth time, a project that should already be finished.

“You cannot allow this modus operandi that the Partido Popular uses, with absolutely all its proposals, since in addition to revealing its incompetence for management and its lack of scruples when it comes to blatantly lying to the public, they end up spending triple or more than initially estimated, always at the taxpayer’s expense. The PP and its null sense of work have been costing us too much money for years.”

“In a place like Torrevieja, where resurfacing work and accessibility improvements are totally non-negotiable points, the well-being of citizens cannot continue to be delayed, due to sheer disinterest and ineptitude. It is urgent that they stop laughing at the people of Torrevieja and start doing something concrete and that is not based on lights and firecrackers, as soon as possible”, concluded Muñoz.
