Santa Pola’s local government are finalising the modifications in the citizen coexistence ordinance that will come into force shortly, including a new ordinance to increase in surveillance and hygiene measures for pet owners in the fishing village.

Being in possession of bags for the collection of excrement and sanitizing liquid to dilute urine on public roads will be required. The Local Police will ensure compliance with the regulations. During the first weeks, owners will be warned of the new measures, and thereafter penalties of up to 750 euro could be imposed.

The new regulation of citizen coexistence is adapted to the Security Law 4/2015 in which the sanctions for “botellón” are collected, in addition to insults or disrespect to the State security forces and bodies.

Obstruction to the authorities, lack of respect and abandonment of animals will be considered sanctionable.

The new ordinance also demands permission to distribute advertising by hand on public roads, regulates the emptying of swimming pools, and contemplates the hours of silence and respect for neighbours between 24:00 and 8:00 in the morning, in addition to between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the summer months.

The Councillor for Citizen Security, Ana Blasco points out that “we are convinced that there will be total collaboration on the part of the citizens. It is an ordinance to improve civic coexistence in the town, and so that together we can build a more liveable and civic Santa Pola”.

Blasco added that “the new ordinance will have contributions made by different neighbourhood associations during its public presentation.”
