Daya Nueva 0 v. Grupo Caliche 1
Caliche started the better and the Daya defence had to be alert to long balls over the top. With eight minutes played the home side put together a good move but Alex’ shot flew just wide of the post. Two minutes late Daya had a corner, Josue hit a great ball to the far post that Josema rose well to head just wide.
Mochin in the Daya goal made a fantastic save a minute later when the home side’s defence stood still in anticipation of an offside decision that did not come. From a well worked Daya free kick on fourteen minutes the ball cannoned off the post and flew across the goal mouth to safety.
What a let off for Caliche ! It was end to end football now with the visitors probably carrying the greater goal threat. On twenty two minutes from a corner that Daya failed to deal with the visitors went ahead.
So how would the home side respond ? Well they certainly did not go into panic mode but with their opponents calling most if the tunes Daya were finding life very difficult. With a few minutes of the half remaining Daya attacked down their left, the ball fell nicely to a Daya forward whose shot was saved by the keeper’s feet. It was the home side’s best chance so far and should have been put away. So 1-0 down at the break but hope springs internal, or so they say.
Coach, Juan Pedro’s half time talk had the desired effect, as Daya started the second period very well. They put together several good moves down the left but with no real threat from the final pass. On fifty eight minutes from a good corner the home side again failed to find the back of the net when it was easier to score than to miss !
These missed chances were surely going to cost Daya the game if allowed to continue. Another good move on sixty eight minutes by Daya with yet another poor finish, surely one must go in soon ? On eighty minutes Mochin made a fantastic save from a close range shot to keep alive the home side’s very very slim chance of getting something from the game. On eighty three minutes it was Caliche’s turn to miss an easy chance, their lobbed effort towards an empty Daya goal, bouncing over the crossbar !
Moments later the visitors blasted another good chance over the bar. Two good chances came Daya’s way but once more diabolical finishing was the order of the day. So final score 1-0 to the visitors.
If Daya could have put away half their chances at least a point would have been earned and may be even the win. Man of the Match was Mochin, his saves kept Daya’s hopes alive.
