On Friday 6th October Montgo Golf Society played the second round of the MGS Decanter at Oliva Nova golf course sponsored by Neil Carter.
The course is in tip top condition and the greens are exceptional making playing this course a true joy. When you consider the problems the maintenance crew have had to deal with this year Oliva Nova is to be congratulated.
The conclusion of round one saw Tom Atkinson leading the charge by 4 clear shots. Although he had another good round it wasn’t quite good enough to maintain his position. In the end just 3 shots separated the top five players in this very closely fought competition.
The decanter was presented to Richard Fox having his first big win of the year with a net total of 148. Denise Cooper and Tom Atkinson both had net 149 but Denise snuck into second place on countback. Fourth and fifth were George Braddick and Dennis Coe with net 150 and 151 respectively.
The two NTPs of the day were won by Geoff Willcock on the 3rd and Richard Morris on the 16th. I must state that Mr Braddicks appearance in last weeks photo was justified as he had the only two in last weeks match. My failure to mention this in dispatches led to him taking a bit of stick for which I was duly berated. So apologies MR B but I have noted your 4th place this week to make up for it. And to confirm there were no twos this week.
Finally I cannot help but mention the dramatic episode during this weeks match concerning the overly close relationship between Susie Snelling’s golf trolley and the lake adjacent to the ladies tee on the third. Suffice to say trolleys do not float. Luckily our intrepid Vice Captain divested herself of footwear and went in to retrieve the still running trolley. And although we have a trained submariner in our society he stood on the bank and watched…yes that’s you George Braddick. So a warning to all those with electric trolleys…make sure they are switched off when you leave them alone.
Next weeks comp is a Magic three stableford sponsored by Peter Twine.
