Costa Calida News, property for sale in Spain, Sport, and local Information.
The Costa Calida (Warm Coast) covers around 250 kilometers (150 miles) of Mediterranean coastline. It is in the Region of Murcia and the Spanish province of Murcia and stretches from its most northern town of El Mojon (on the most southern part of the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante) through to its most southern municipality of Águilas in the south which borders on the region of Almería province.
The main airport for the coastal region is the Murcia-Corvera International Airport (RMU) which is around 35 minutes away by car. The area is also serviced by Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) which is around 45 minutes to the north.
The northern end of the Costa Calida coastline includes the 170 km2 Mar Menor (“Lesser Sea”) which is Europe’s largest coastal saltwater lagoon. The Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a 22 km-long spit of land called La Manga which caters for much of the tourism in the region.
This region has a micro-climate which features comparatively hot average annual temperatures and a relative degree of aridity (with precipitation averaging less than 34 cm annually).
