The Navy’s training ship, Juan Sebastián de Elcano, docked in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Friday, marking the first stop of its voyage after departing from Cádiz last Saturday.

Among the crew is Princess Leonor, who is taking part in this training expedition as part of her naval education. The ship will remain in Santa Cruz de Tenerife over the weekend before setting sail for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, its final stop before embarking on the transatlantic leg of the journey to Salvador de Bahía, Brazil. The crossing to Brazil is expected to take 22 days.

As the Elcano arrived at the Los Llanos dock in Tenerife, it was welcomed with a ceremonial ten-gun salute, performed by members of the Historical Cultural Association Gesta 25 de Julio de 1797. The salute commemorated the historic victory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife over British forces led by Admiral Nelson.
