Torrevieja Council has begun resurfacing almost 15,000 square metres of roads across La Mata as part of a major €6.37 million municipal programme to improve road conditions, pedestrian safety and accessibility throughout the municipality.
Work started on Thursday, 22 October, covering five streets and avenues, with completion scheduled for Friday, 30 October.
The latest improvements, overseen by the council’s Urban Services Department, involve removing the deteriorated road surface before laying fresh asphalt to provide smoother, safer driving conditions.
The roads affected are:
- Calle Perseo: 6,886m²
- Avenida de Inglaterra: 4,500m²
- Calles Adriano, Puerto Romano and Vía Augusta: 3,500m² combined
In total, 14,886 square metres of road surface will be renewed, addressing damaged and worn sections of carriageway.
Part of €6.37 Million Road Improvement Programme
The La Mata works form part of a wider municipal resurfacing and accessibility scheme, with an overall tender budget of €6,368,670.50, including VAT.
The programme covers 327,529 square metres of roads across Torrevieja, divided into two contracts.
The northern section, awarded to Eiffage Infraestructuras, includes 156,256m² across up to 66 streets and avenues. The southern section, awarded to Pavasal Empresa Constructora, covers 171,273m² across up to 57 roads.
Alongside resurfacing, the programme includes pavement widening, improved pedestrian crossings, lowered kerbs and upgraded road markings and signage.
Work has already been carried out on Avenida Tomás Boj Andreu, Avenida Desiderio Rodríguez, Avenida Doctor Gregorio Marañón and Avenida de las Gardenias, as well as in the Mar Azul and Lo Ferrís urbanisations.
In Mar Azul and Lo Ferrís, improvements included resurfacing 22,289m² of roads, upgrading approximately 200 metres of pedestrian routes and completing 40 accessibility improvements, representing an investment of €480,000.
The council says the ongoing programme is designed to modernise Torrevieja’s road network, improve pedestrian mobility and create safer, more accessible streets for residents and visitors.
With the latest phase now underway in La Mata, the municipality continues its extensive programme of road repairs and public-space improvements across both its northern and southern districts.
